January 18: 17 hour train rideee

Today we had a down day in Emeishan until 4:40 when our train leaves for Kunming. 17 hours!

We left the Teddy Bear hostel around 11 to get lunch. The restaurant was packed with its own work staff. Just sitting at three different tables watching Chinese TV. They were glued to the show. It was so funny.

After lunch we walked around the "town" and got snacks for our 17-hour train ride. After that we had nothing else to do so we headed to the train station.

We stood in line for what seemed like an hour. There were two lines: one line for people who needed to buy tickets and one line for people who reserved their tickets by phone or online. We reserved our tickets. Lucky is we got to be in the shorter line. Not so lucky us... Only one person was working and she was going back and forth between lines. They need some of the workers from the restaurant we were at to work at the train station ticket office.

Eventually we got our tickets and it was only 2... What to do for 2 and half hours?!? Sit in the cold train station. Thankfully time went by relatively quickly.

As for the train ride... I read Life of Pi (I haven't finished it) and I journaled.

Kunming tomorrow! I am so excited to be in a new province, Yunnan province. I hear it’s beautiful and warm. A great escape from the cold weather we've had.
